How To Avoid the Top 3 Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing

It’s no doubt that affiliate marketing is one of the most possible ways of making real cash online. As long as you’re willing to put in effort, you’re able to make some cash out of it. So, there are a growing number of people who are passionately including affiliate marketing into their Internet Marketing business.

Having said that affiliate marketing is lucrative, there are still some traps in the business. Making some major mistakes can harm or even ruin your entire affiliate business.

So, it’s absolutely necessary to know them prior to starting an profitable affiliate marketing business…

Mistake number #1: Wrong Product Selection

Many people desperately want to earn some fast cash with affiliate marketing. As a result, they just go and choose some products with high commission payout to promote without considering the selling ability of the products.

High commission doesn’t means that you can earn more. If the selling ability and demand of a specific product is strong, you can earn cool cash even though the commission payout is low. Let’s say for example, there are actually many people earning massive cash by promoting just some low commission Amazon products…

Mistake number #2: Focusing on Too Many Affiliate Programs

As you know, affiliate programs are really easy to sign up for. So, you might think that it’s fine to join many affiliate networks / programs to increase and diversify your earning streams.

It seems to be a great way to have multiple income sources, right? In fact, it’s not really true. Joining too many affiliate programs will make you lose your focus and result in earning the minimum for each affiliate program.

It’s always advised to stick to one affiliate program in the beginning. After you’ve earned some steady cash, then you can start to go for other streams of affiliate income by joining other affiliate programs.

Mistake number #3: Promoting Without Having Purchased the Product

The major job of an affiliate is to recommend a product to potential customers. If you know nothing about the product, how can you promote it to readers convincingly?

If you don’t want to purchase the product, you can send an email to the product owner and ask for a review copy. Try to list down your plan of how to promote their product like a mini business proposal.

For example, you can say that you have a large group of targeted Twitter followers and have been able to make nice affiliate sales in the past, you have large Facebook Fanpage fans, you’ll promote it intensively by article marketing, you’ll set up a search engine optimized site to promote etc… Just use your imagination to show your sincerity and “perceived” marketing ability. In this way, many of the convinced product owners are more than willing to pass you a review copy…

In short, knowing what you plan to do prior to going about the affiliate marketing business is important. Don’t start without a plan!
